Design & Innovation
The project is for a client who is a popular global design organization located in the USA, with branches all over the globe. They have a team of designers, engineers, teachers, researchers who look at creating change through design, by building learning platforms and tools to unlock creativity. They create human-centered inventions, services, spaces, and associations that empower groups, cities, and even countries.
The client was keen to migrate to the cloud-based SaaS applications for better usability, enhanced productivity, increased lead generation and revenue maximization through effective marketing strategies, resource, and project planning.
Replacing a legacy application with a third-party SaaS-based application by making sure that all existing business logic will work was a big challenge. Writing integrations that synchronize data between the three SaaS-based applications from different vendors was difficult.
Deploying all the legacy systems onto the new SaaS-based applications in a single shot was a tough task specially to ensure a low downtime. It was a challenging task to implement a tightly coupled approach for data loading and processing.
Looking at the challenges faced by the client, SPEC INDIA followed an automated process that divided the responsibilities based on processes. The migration team worked on data migration activities, integration team worked on building integration between systems and ensure all integrations work effectively and in a timely manner.
The ETL team worked on extracting data, transforming, and loading it into data warehouses. The reporting team worked on creating Power BI reports from the processed data. The migration activity was a single time activity and hence needed no scheduling. But the integration, ETL and reporting were a continuous process and were scheduled for different intervals.
We wrote the intermediate layer that pulls the data from legacy system & converts into desired format (in Mavenlink required format), writes integrations in AWS Lambda to sync data between all three systems, and writes .NET API to pull data from all three SaaS based applications to store into Azure Storage. We implemented ETL process to convert raw data into processed data using Azure Data Analytics & Azure Data Factory, finally to create Power BI reports from processed data. For automation, we implemented Azure Data Factory pipelines.
